Chamber invites you to get involved!

Since 1599 when the first chambers of commerce were founded in Europe, their purpose was to advocate on behalf of the business community. They are organized on three levels: national, state and local. The world's oldest English-speaking chamber of commerce is that of New York City, which was established in 1769. Our local chamber of commerce, the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce, was founded in 1923.

Although mission statements may differ among chambers to represent the identified needs of their specific area and its characteristics, there is a commonality to promote and to advance the interests of its members.

For the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce, which is an association of businesses, services, governmental agencies, schools and organizations, its purpose is to promote the economic health and welfare of its community. Often it will provide a forum for businesses to express their interests on matters affecting them so that the Chamber can work as a liaison between businesses, organizations, community residents, and Village government.

At its core is the mission to foster economic opportunity and a favorable business climate. The Chamber is dedicated to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life in this community.

Cheering squad, event organizer, marketing developer, program planner, committee co-coordinator, like all chambers, the Winnetka Chamber is a fee based organization dependent on members for its existence. Unlike some, Winnetka’s Chamber is not limited to Winnetka located businesses. It functions with an open membership.

As an enhancement this year, the Winnetka Chamber has added several levels to membership. In addition to Business, Organization, School, Not-for-Profit and Government, they have included Resident, Home-based Business, and Landlord categories. They are asking you to join.
